Foster Care Prevention and Supports

Behavior Analysis, Inc. operates a sister program, Behavior Analysis and Therapy, Inc. (BAT). BAT is a non-profit 501(C)(3) corporation that provides behavioral services funded by competitive governmental grants. These programs are aimed at diverting children from entering the foster care system and at providing behavioral supports and services to children already in the foster care system.

Our Foster Care Prevention Program, Behavioral Education and Treatment (BET), serves southwestern Florida and is funded entirely by the Children’s Network of Southwest Florida. It's purpose is to provide behavioral supports and services to families who may be at risk of having a child enter the Foster Care system due to the behavior of one or more adolescent children. Referrals come directly to the program from state Child Protective Investigators. Our expert staff visits these homes and conducts a thorough eco-behavioral assessment of the problem behaviors and the family’s response to the behavior problems. We then develop behaviorally-based interventions designed to improve the child’s behavior and family relationships. Follow up visits are provided to ensure that the interventions are successful and that the family is equipped with the skills needed to deal with any future problem behaviors that may arise. This highly innovative program has been extremely successful in reducing behavior problems, improving family relationships, keeping families together and in saving the state of Florida a great deal of money that would otherwise be spent by placing many of these children into Foster Care.

Our Foster Care Supports and Services Program is located in Miami-Dade County. We visit foster care families who have one or more children in the home in need of behavioral intervention. Our expert staff visits these foster care homes and conducts a thorough eco-behavioral assessment of the problem behaviors and the family’s response to the behavior problems. We then develop behaviorally-based interventions designed to improve the child’s behavior and family relationships. Follow up visits are provided to ensure that the interventions are successful and that the family is equipped with the skills needed to deal with future problem behaviors. This program has been very successful in keeping children in stable placements and, in some cases, has resulted in reunification of the child with his or her biological family.

These programs are currently being reviewed for replication in other areas in Florida and in several other states.
